Buck Surratt has over 35 years of management and leadership experience in the electric power industry. His skills cover a broad range of disciplines, including hands-on power plant operations and maintenance, project management, and human performance improvement. His professional experience covers Coal and Natural Gas fired Turbines.
Prior to working for Olympus Power, Mr. Surratt worked for Stewart & Stevenson and General Electric as the Assistant Plant Manager and then the Plant Manager at the Ada Cogeneration Generating facility.
At Olympus Power, Mr. Surratt is responsible for managing the Operations and Maintenance teams at each of its power plants. Mr. Surratt first joined Olympus back in 2012 and served as the Plant Manager at the 30 MW Ada Cogeneration Power Plant in Ada Michigan from 2000 through 2021. After leaving the Ada facility, Mr. Surratt has worked with Olympus Power on special assignments, including senior management roles at the Scrubgrass and the Northampton waste coal facilities.
During his time at General Electric, Mr. Surratt obtained certifications in Facility Management, Frontline Leadership, and Leadership Management, each issued by the GE Professional Development Institute. In addition, Mr. Surratt is a recipient of the GE Six Sigma Green Belt Certification covering the management and leadership of highly efficient operations. Finally, Mr. Surratt studied the fundamentals of Frame 7 gas turbine construction, operations and maintenance at GE.
From 1981-1987 Mr. Surratt served in the US Navy aboard the USS Elliot in the Gas Turbine Engineering division, responsible for overall supervisory control of engineering operations - including Propulsion, Electric Plant, and Damage Control.
After his honorable discharge from the US Navy, Mr. Surratt went to work for Sulzer formally Hickham Industries, in Laport Texas as a Gas Turbine overhaul technician responsible for complete tear down and rebuilding of the GE Frame III and Frame V Gas Turbines, compressor sections and auxiliary equipment
